SportsKnight Puts Academy of Art U. Athletics in the Spotlight

Capturing the excitement and accomplishments of the Academy of Art University’s Urban Knights athletic teams is the goal of SportsKnight, a new program recently debuted on YouTube and Bay Area cable TV. The show, planned to air monthly, is created by students — including several artist-athletes — from the university’s School of Multimedia Communications.

Academy Hurdler Takes Gold at World University Games in Russia

After helping her teammates win indoor and outdoor national championships in track and field, Academy of Art University artist-athlete Vashti Thomas has captured a gold medal in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2013 World University Games (WUG). Thomas set both a WUG record and an NCAA Division II record in the process.

Academy of Art U. Athletics a Repeat Winner in Community Engagement

Academy of Art University athletes, known as the Urban Knights, have again received the Pacific West (PacWest) Conference Community Engagement Award for their volunteer service — from health awareness to youth mentorship — in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is the second year that Academy Athletics has been recognized by the conference.

Academy of Art University Celebrates 2013 Graduates in San Francisco

Even before the mortarboards hit the air in the traditional display of post-graduation exuberance, there was plenty to celebrate at the Academy’s commencement May 24 at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco. Honorary doctorates went to visual effects legend Douglas Trumbull and former Academy Athletics Director Jamie Williams; Timothy Lamb was named Distinguished Alumni.

Academy of Art University Athletes Score Historic Firsts in PacWest, NCAA

One day, two championships: The women’s athletic programs at the Academy of Art University continue to rack up milestones. Just hours after the women’s track and field team captured an NCAA Division II national championship, the university’s women’s basketball squad won the inaugural PacWest Conference tournament and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
